Local Food Bank, Postal Service Partner to Stamp Out Hunger This Weekend

Tomorrow is the Stamp Out Hunger food drive to benefit the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

Development Manager Tara Harris says the annual partnership with the postal service makes it easy for people to donate food.

"You just set the donation out at your mailbox first thing in the morning, and the letter carrier will pick it up," Harris said. "And if for some reason they miss your donation, you can always call the food bank, and we can tell you how to make that donation."

The food bank needs nonperishable items like canned beans, peanut butter, soups, canned meat and canned vegetables.

Reasor’s stores are selling donation kits, which employees will take to the food bank directly from the warehouse. Harris says this year’s goal is 250,000 meals across the 24 counties they cover.

"That would come out to about 300,000 pounds collected from residents, from businesses and also from the Reasor's locations," Harris said. "So that's our big goal for this year."

Reasor’s stores are also accepting food donations through Monday.
