Judge Rules on Council Map

By KWGS News

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa District Court Judge Daman Cantrell rules Tulsa must use the new 2011 council district map for the upcoming municipal election. The judge heard from legal counsel for the city and the election board, plus friend of the court comments from City Councilor John Eagleton, before issuing his ruling in a packed courtroom.

At issue is the time allowed by the city charter to allow a protest to the new map. Under today's ruling the protest period will end one-day prior to the filing period beginning for Tulsa City Council candidates.

Eagleton told KWGS after the ruling that he expects protests to be filed against the map by citizens, but not by him. If so, that would force the issue back in Tulsa District Court for a review of the boundary lines.
