Jobs Cuts at OU

Norman, OK – USPS cuts to affect instructors at Norman center

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) The University of Oklahoma says it will cut 50 full-time positions at the National Center for Employee Development, which provides training to United States Postal Service employees from across the country.

The Norman Transcript reports that before the cuts, the university employed about 180 full-time instructors at the center. The contract positions were reduced to 130 positions on Monday.

The postal service owns the center but the university administers a contract for the instructors. The postal service is considering cutbacks nationwide, including the closure of post offices and processing centers, as it deals with budget woes.

The postal service says the reduction in training at the Norman center is expected to save more than $2.6 million annually.
