Jeff Martin, Book Smart Tulsa, and 100 Cool (and Local) Literary Events (and Counting)

On this edition of our show, we speak with our old friend Jeff Martin, who occasionally contributes commentaries to ST, works as the Online Communities Manager at Philbrook Museum of Art, and is the founder/mastermind behind the ongoing (and non-profit) Book Smart Tulsa series of readings/signings. This always-active, ever-engaging literary series --- which has been popular with Tulsa book-lovers of all sorts since its inception three years ago (or so) --- will present its 100th event tonight, Tuesday the 12th, at 7pm at Dwelling Spaces in downtown Tulsa. It's a reading/talk/signing with Daniel H. Wilson, a bestselling sci-fi/futuristic/techno-thriller novelist (and robotics expert) who graduated from the University of Tulsa just a few years ago. Wilson's previous novel, "Robopocalypse," will be made into a film very soon (with Steven Spielberg directing), and his new novel, just out, is called "Amped." (Wilson also recently wrote a piece for The Wall Street Jounal about how "high-tech implants will soon be commonplace enhancements under our skin and inside our skulls" --- and you can read that article, which is closely related to the trends and topics that Wilson covers in his fiction, here.) Also on today's show, Dr. John Henning Schumann of OU-Tulsa, our commentator on health and medical matters, offers a few useful notes on cholesterol (the good kind as well the bad). And lastly, you can learn more about many of Book Smart Tulsa's upcoming events at this link.
