Hunter's Death

By Associated Press

Wilburton, OK – Okla. hunter's death ruled a homicide

WILBURTON, Okla. (AP) A Hartshorne man's deer-hunting death has been ruled a homicide, but his widow says charging the friend who shot him would be another tragedy.

Forty-four-year-old John Morgan was fatally shot last October in the Gowen Mountain area. Investigators say his friend, 70-year-old Jack Zearley, fired a high-powered rifle at a deer that was between him and Morgan.

Dana Morgan told The Oklahoman that charging her husband's friend, Zearley, would be a "tragedy upon a tragedy."

Latimer County District Attorney Jeff Smith hasn't decided whether charges will be filed.

Zearley doesn't not have a published telephone number and couldn't be reached for comment.
