Hofmeister Enters State Education Race

Embattled Republican Oklahoma School Superintendent Janet Barresi is getting a primary challenger. Tulsa educator and former state school board member Joy Hofmeister formally announced she was entering the race today at a Tulsa news conference.

Hofmeister resigned from the state board about nine months ago after several high profile disagreements with Barresi and her management staff.  Today, she called for ending “the chaos” in the state department of education.

Earlier this month, she announced she already had the support of 20-state Republican lawmakers. Hofmeister is a former classroom teacher and former member of the Jenks Education Foundation.
