Highway Patrol: Trooper Kills Armed Motorist after Chase

KWGS News File Photo

MIAMI, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a trooper shot and killed a motorist who got out of his car holding a handgun after a brief chase.

Captain Paul Timmons said Saturday that the shooting happened late Friday near Miami, Oklahoma. He declined to identify the suspect or the trooper, who was placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, per policy.

Timmons says the suspect refused to stop at a driver's license checkpoint and then led the trooper on a chase for about six blocks. He says the suspect left his car holding a gun and the trooper shot him because he feared for his life.
