Flu Closes Schools

Tulsa, OK – 2 SE Okla. school districts close because of flu

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Officials in two small southeastern Oklahoma school districts have called off classes temporarily after dozens of students developed a flu-like illness.

Schools in Roff, in Pontotoc County, and Haworth, in McCurtain County, could reopen early next week.

The Roff district has about 340 students and Pontotoc County Health Department administrator Michael Echelle says 140 missed school Monday because of illness. Echelle says the district will be closed starting Wednesday through at least Monday.

McCurtain County Health Department administrator Rhonda Dennis says some students in the Haworth district have tested positive for swine flu. Dennis says absences in the district, which has about 580 students, grew to 20 percent on Monday.
