Flash Flooding Prompts Road Closures in Northern Oklahoma

U.S. Army Coprs of Engineers-Tulsa District

Several highways are closed in northern Oklahoma as thunderstorms cause flash flooding in some areas.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says parts of State Highway 74 and U.S. 60 are closed in Grant County, while State Highway 15 is closed 1 mile west of Interstate 35 near Billings in Noble County.

A flash flood warning is in effect for several counties in northern and central Oklahoma. Heavy rain has fallen in those areas — especially Kay County — and forecasters say more is expected Thursday.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman says severe thunderstorms are possible in Oklahoma on Thursday afternoon and evening, but the greatest risk for tornadoes or damaging winds is north of the state.
