Don't be fooled by the glittery jumpsuit. Frazey Ford is out for blood. The video for this scathing breakup anthem, "Done," follows Ford — whose silky-soft vocals sound naughty and scrumptious wrapped around curse words — taking to the streets with friends and neighbors to strut and dance their rage away. When Wild author Cheryl Strayed, as advice columnist Sugar, hoped a reader would get "a bit of sully in your sweet," she could have been telling her audience to listen to this song on loop.
Everything about "Done," as a song and now as a video, is built on contrasts. Ford's lyrics sound so urgent she might have written them while slamming the front door behind her, but the legendary Hi Rhythm Section plays like they've got all the time in the world. Her voice is sweet, but her message is as bitter as a pill swallowed dry. And this video, shot in East Vancouver in glorious late-afternoon Canadian sunlight, is a diatribe disguised as a block party. That's Ford's genius — finding the ways opposing forces complement each other. She's got the glitter to balance her grit, and exactly enough sully in her sweet.
