Firefighters Battle Large Grass Fire in McClain County

File photo

PURCELL, Okla. (AP) — Firefighters in McClain County are battling a large grass fire as a red flag fire warning remains in effect for parts of Oklahoma.

Authorities say at least one home was evacuated Saturday as the fire burned between Blanchard and Goldsby about 28 miles south of Oklahoma City. Firefighters from across the region are working to control the fire and prevent damage to property.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Norman says the red flag warning is in effect through Saturday night in parts of southwestern and western Oklahoma. Forecasters say conditions favorable for the spread of grass fires are elevated in the region due to unseasonably warm, dry and windy conditions.
