Oklahoma City, OK – Execution set for Okla. death row inmate

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has set Jan. 6 as the execution date for Oklahoma death row inmate Billy Don Alverson.

The court set the date Wednesday for the 39-year-old Alverson. The attorney general's office requested it on Nov. 1 after the U.S. Supreme Court denied Alverson's final appeal.

Alverson was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the Feb. 26, 1995, baseball-bat beating death of 30-year-old Richard Kevin Yost during a robbery of a QuikTrip convenience store in Tulsa. Yost was the store's night clerk.

Another death row inmate, John David Duty, is set to be executed Dec. 16 for the 2001 murder of 22-year-old Curtis Wise, Duty's cell mate at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
