Oklahoma City, OK – Okla City Zoo elephants back from breeding program
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Two Asian elephants sent to Tulsa as part of a breeding effort have returned to the Oklahoma City Zoo one is pregnant and the other might be.
Sisters Asha and Chandra returned Monday and are in a new habitat that was built after they left for Tulsa in June 2008 as part of a national breeding plan.
Asha is pregnant and due to give birth in May after breeding with the male elephant Sneezy. The Oklahoman reported that zookeepers won't know until at least next week whether Chandra and Sneezy's last breeding attempt was successful.
Asha and Chandra will not on public exhibit until spring when the new habitat is completely finished.
