Economic Worries

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. officials worry about Wall Street's impact

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's economy continued to show signs of improvement last week as it recovers from the recession.

But state finance officials say they're concerned last week's roller coaster ride on Wall Street could stoke the fears of investors and slow the state's economy.

The head of the state's largest pension system says the severe market swings can have a dramatic impact on state pensions. But James Wilbanks says the portfolio managers at the Teachers' Retirement System don't make decisions based on short-term market fluctuations.

Gov. Mary Fallin says her concern is that uncertainty in Washington and on Wall Street could have a chilling effect on business owners looking to grow or expand.
