Norman, OK – Emergency managers to discuss preparation
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Emergency managers from across the state are gathering in Norman to discuss their role in preparedness, response and recovery from natural and manmade disasters.
The annual Oklahoma Emergency Management Conference begins Tuesday. More than 250 emergency managers and other public and private sector officials are expected to attend.
Featured speakers include Albert Ashwood, the director of the state Office of Emergency Management, and Tony Russell, the regional director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Emergency managers will discuss their response to a tornado outbreak in May when at least 34 tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma, including 24 tornadoes on May 10 alone. Two that touched down in central Oklahoma had wind speeds of between 166 mph and 200 mph.
The storms killed two people and injured at least 438 others.
