Norman workers chip away at beaver-caused damage

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Norman's street superintendent says there's nothing constructive about beavers that work their way into town and build dams where water is supposed to drain.

Superintendent Greg Hall told The Norman Transcript that every year the city has to trap and remove beavers that come up the South Canadian and Little rivers.

Hall acknowledges that beavers have a "cute and cuddly" reputation from TV, but he says they can be a scourge in an urban area. Streets, homes and businesses flood when beaver dams block drainage systems.

Hall says he knows it's not a popular solution, but beavers trapped in the city are euthanized because there's no authorization for the animals to be relocated.
