Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. DHS panel pays scant attention to lawsuit

(Information in the following story is from: The Oklahoman, http://www.newsok.com)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Members of the commission that oversees the Oklahoma Department of Human Services say they have paid little attention to a lawsuit that accuses the agency of standing by while children are being hurt.

The Oklahoman reported Sunday that the panel has also not devoted attention to a $420,000, taxpayer-funded audit designed to help the agency improve its child-welfare services.

Commissioner Linda Weeks says her eyes would have "glazed over" had she tried to read the 197-page report that came out in 2009.

Commissioner Michael Peck says his initial reaction to the lawsuit by a child advocacy group was that the agency's legal department would handle it.
