There is new information regarding federal sequestration and the Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds along the McClellan-Kerr navigation system. The Corps was going to delay opening some campgrounds in the area. Word comes now that those facilities will be closed for the remainder of the year.
Corps spokesman Ross Adkins says it’s all a matter of money…and the navigational channel must come first. There is not enough money to open those facilities. He says that if additional funds came from somewhere else, they would open the campgrounds “in a heartbeat”.
