Copper Theft Death

By AP

Drumright, OK – Okla man electrocuted while trying to steal copper

DRUMRIGHT, Okla. (AP) Police say a Cushing man was electrocuted as he tried to steal copper near a transformer in Drumright.

Assistant police chief Bill Lyon told the Stillwater NewsPress that according to a witness, 18-year-old Cody Holland had one hand on a copper ground wire with a negative charge when he fell onto the transformer that had a positive charge.

Lyon says the copper wires and transformer were behind a chain-link fence with a high-voltage sign along an oil lease road.

Lyon says the witness, whose name wasn't released, called his father and they took Holland to Drumright Regional Hospital. He was pronounced dead.

Investigators are still looking into the incident.
