Commissioners Pass Jail Agreement Amendment

Tulsa County

Tulsa County commissioners approve an amendment to their jail agreement with the city.

Commissioner Ron Peters said it’s an extension of the existing agreement, which expired Oct. 31.

"To ensure that the City of Tulsa receives uninterrupted service at the jail and while simultaneously protecting the county, which is currently accepting prisoners without an agreement, we are retroactively extending the agreement to Nov. 1," Peters said.

This amendment formalizes a daily rate of $59. Commissioners passed it unanimously in a special meeting.

Peters said the city has been using the jail knowing that was the effective rate since last month.

"They already understood, I'm pretty sure, that we were going to be billing at the new rate, effective Nov. 1," Peters said. "The bill we'll be sending them in December will reflect the new rates. I don't think they'll be a surprise to anybody."

The amendment has no expiration date. It will continue until a new agreement is reached, the parties hit an impasse or it’s terminated in writing by the city, county or criminal justice authority.
