Claremore Stand-off Ends

Google Street View

CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say a nine-hour standoff at a Claremore motel ended early Tuesday with the peaceful surrender of two suspects.

Authorities says the incident began Monday when officers spotted a stolen car in the parking lot of a Walmart.

Police say officers discovered a mobile methamphetamine lab inside the car. Two men fled to the Elms Motel as officers tried to arrest them.

Police say the men hid in the attic of one of the rooms, and the Tulsa Police Special Operations Unit was called in to help.

Tulsa Sgt. Malcolm Wightman says both men surrendered at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday shortly after Claremore police fired pepper balls into the room.

The two men, whose names weren't released, remain jailed Tuesday morning.
