ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma investigators have not concluded whether a truck driver's inattention was the cause of a highway collision that killed 4 members of a Texas college softball team.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol on Monday again declined to say what distracted the driver of the tractor-trailer at the time of the crash Friday night.
Authorities have identified the driver as 53-year-old Russell Staley of Saginaw, Texas. Staley declined to comment on Monday when reached by The Associated Press.
Staley was driving northbound on Interstate 35 when he his 18-wheel tractor-trailer veered into the southbound lanes and crashed into a bus carrying 15 softball players from North Central Texas College.
Federal investigators said Sunday that the truck continued straight for another 300 feet.
