Oklahoma City, OK – Lawmaker asks for AG opinion on Okla. casino

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A Broken Arrow lawmaker is asking for an official opinion from the attorney general on the legality of a proposed tribal casino in his district.

Rep. Mike Ritze sought the opinion on Thursday, citing strong local opposition and numerous "complicated legal issues" involved with the plan to build the casino.

The Kialegee Tribal Town already has broken ground on a 20-acre site where it plans to build a temporary casino, followed by a permanent structure.

Local residents have complained the casino will be within walking distance of a vocational-technology campus, a church and a planned daycare center.

Tribal officials say the casino will provide a boost for the local economy.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt on Wednesday asked the tribe to provide his office with documents connected to the casino site.
