Car Ownership Currently Cheaper Than Uber or Lyft in Tulsa

Owning a car in Tulsa is still cheaper than using Uber or Lyft exclusively.

NerdWallet ran the numbers. For a year of comparable use, owning a car will run you $11,620.66, while Lyft would cost $18,045.56 and Uber $21,382.87.

Those are the numbers specific to Tulsa. Both services launched here within the last year. Analysts looked at 50 cities and determined the cost for comparable use of a personal car and both ridesharing services.

Analyst John Kuo said it may still be worth it for some trying to be car free.

"If you're just looking to commute and if you can find other options, such as if you're walking or biking or hitching a ride with someone else, maybe ditching your car and switching to Uber or Lyft is a viable option," Kuo said.

For the same cost as owning a car, you’d get about 14 Lyft trips or 12 Uber trips a week, according to NerdWallet’s math.
