Brinkley Asks for Stay in Civil Suit Proceedings

Oklahoma State

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A Republican state senator at the center of an embezzlement investigation at the nonprofit agency where he once worked has asked a judge to file under seal a request to stay proceedings in a civil suit.

Sen. Rick Brinkley is asking a Tulsa district judge to let him file the request to put the proceedings on hold. If he's allowed to file the request under seal, it wouldn't be made public.

The Better Business Bureau of Tulsa filed a civil suit against Brinkley June 5 alleging he embezzled more than $1 million over 15 years.

The organization alleged he used its money to pay "his mortgage, pool cleaner, personal credit card invoices, and to support a hidden gambling habit."
