Muskogee, OK – Okla. foundation gets grant to build housing units

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma foundation has received more than $1.53 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to aid low-income people with disabilities.

HUD officials announced Wednesday that the grant to the Greater Muskogee Community Foundation will help produce accessible housing, offer rental assistance and facilitate supportive services for persons with disabilities.

The money is to kick-start construction or fund the major rehabilitation of housing units. Officials say in Oklahoma, it will provide a capital advance of $1.43 million to go toward the construction of a 10-unit independent living apartment project for those who are physically disabled.

The aid also will provide a three-year rental subsidy of $101,400.
