Big Crowds at the Lakes for Summer's Last Hurrah

KWGS File photo

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma parks officials say the state's lakes are expecting crowds this holiday weekend, though they likely won't be as intense as those over Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends.

Travis Miller, chief park ranger at Keystone State Park, says Labor Day crowds are more similar to those on an average weekend in June, with visitors just staying a bit longer.

The Tulsa World reports that because school is in session, families usually get a later start. And Monday will take with it the hunters, as dove season opens.

Miller says Oklahoma parks are also expecting more people to be in the water this long holiday weekend, because of the hotter weather.

Area highs are expected to be in the mid-90s this weekend, with a slight chance of rain.
