AUDIO: Senator Speaks Out on Trump's Spar with Fallen Soldier's Family

KWGS News Photo

Oklahoma U.S. Senator James Lankford is stopping short of calling out Donald Trump for his criticism of the parents of a Muslim U.S. Army captain who was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq.

In an interview with KWGS, Lankford said:

LANKFORD: "Their sacrifice and their son's sacrifice is to be honored. Period."

Lankford also praised U.S. Army captain, Humayun Khan, who was killed in a suicide bombing in 2004.

The captain's parents have come under criticism from GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump for speaking out against his candidacy during the Democratic National Convention.

The bereaved father, Khizr Khan, has called on Republicans in Congress to withdraw their support for Trump after the candidate's remarks about the family.

Lankford says that Trump should have just never gone down that road. He should have simply ignored the comments made by Kahn at last week's DNC.
