Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma soldier among those killed in Afghanistan

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Another Oklahoma soldier has been killed in combat in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced Sunday that Specialist Jordan Morris of Stillwater was one of five soldiers who died Thursday of injuries they suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle in Kandahar province.

The 23-year-old Morris was assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, New York.

Morris, a 2010 graduate of West Point, is the third Oklahoman to die in combat in Afghanistan this month and the fifth in recent weeks. Staff Sgt. Kirk Owen died Aug. 2 and Sgt. Anthony Del Mar Peterson died Aug. 4.

Pvt. 1st Class Augustus J. Vicari and 2nd Lt. Jered W. Ewy died on July 29.
