Animal Advocates Oppose Horse Slaughter in Oklahoma

File Photo

A legislative plan introduce a horse slaughtering facility in Oklahoma is creating opposition from animal rights groups.

Animal protection groups are rallying at the state Capitol today for "Humane Lobby Day" to urge legislators to stop the bill that allows horse slaughtering in the state.

The bill has a ban on the sale of horse meat for human consumption in Oklahoma, but authorizes horse meat to be exported.

Advocates are also urging support of a bill that would improve the conditions of animal shelters in the state.
