2 Injured When Plane Loses Power, Goes Off McAlester Runway

File photo

The manager of McAlester Regional Airport says two men were injured when the airplane they were in apparently lost power and went off a runway at the airport.

Butch Mellor told reporters the aircraft was doing touch and go landings and takeoffs Sunday morning when it went off the runway. He said federal safety officials will investigate the incident.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Paul Timmons told reporters the plane was carrying a student pilot and an instructor.

Both men were hospitalized with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
