2 Dead in Explosion, Fire at Oklahoma Oil Rig

City-Data

COALGATE, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma officials say two people have died of injuries suffered during an explosion and fire at an oil rig in the southeastern corner of the state.

The state Medical Examiner's office identified the dead as 26-year-old Gary Keenen of Ada and 27-year-old Kelsey Bellah of Tulsa.

Television stations KTEN in Ada and KWTV in Oklahoma City reported that the explosion occurred early Friday at a rig about 2 miles west of Coalgate. The area is 100 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.

KWTV reported the rig was owned by Pablo Energy of nearby Atoka and said the state fire marshal and the state Corporation Commission were investigating.

The television stations said two others were hurt.
