1 hurt as severe storms, hail pound SW Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — At least one person received a minor injury and homes and vehicles were damaged when severe thunderstorms dropped hail the size of baseballs on parts of southwestern Oklahoma.

Tillman County Emergency Management Director Jeffrey Rector said Friday a couple and their grandchild were trying to escape the storm when hail smashed one of the vehicle's windows, injuring one of the occupants.

Rector says hail battered the windows and roofs of numerous homes and damaged more vehicles in Grandfield. He says officials were asking for plywood to board up damaged windows.

In neighboring Cotton County, a sheriff's dispatcher says some cars were damaged as the storm passed through, but there were no reports of injuries.

Thunderstorms developed ahead of a dryline in the region, which warmed into the 90s Friday afternoon.
