1 Dead in Officer-Involved Shooting in OKC

File Photo

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City police say an officer was wounded and a man is dead in a shooting on the city's northwest side.

The names of the officer and the dead man were not immediately released Friday afternoon.

Captain Dexter Nelson says two officers working as part of a federally funded program were seeking the man and found him at a convenience store. Nelson says the suspect ran across the street with the officers in pursuit and the man turned and shot one officer.

Nelson says the officer was wounded, but returned fire and killed the suspect.

Nelson says the officer is in stable condition with non-life threatening wounds, but has not yet been interviewed and police were not sure why the officers were seeking the suspect.
