Ex-Webbers Falls officers accused in swindle exonerated

WEBBERS FALLS, Okla. (AP) Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore says two former Webbers Falls police officers who were accused of swindling a motorist during a traffic stop won't be charged.

Officials say evidence has emerged that the alleged victim was rightfully ticketed by Joe Garrett and Aaron Torix.

Missoula, MT – New dean hired for UM Law School

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) A legal scholar and national leader in environmental and energy law, Irma Russell, has been named dean of the University of Montana School of Law.

The university says Russell is the school's first female dean.

Russell was a law professor at the University of Tulsa College of Law in Oklahoma.

She began her new UM duties July 1.

McAlester, OK – Man convicted of killing campers put to death

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) A man convicted of the 1995 shooting deaths of two campers in southern Oklahoma has been put to death.

Michael P. DeLozier was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.

Sales Tax Drop

Tulsa, OK – Sales Tax Revenues Still In Decline

The City has received its July sales and use tax distribution from the Oklahoma Tax
Commission, representing taxes collected in June, showing a 10.73 percent reduction
in sales taxes from the same period last year.

The reported revenue closely reflects the budgeted revenue estimates which were
revised downward. Tulsa's July sales tax disbursement is $16,498,273. The budget
estimate was for $16,507,887. Last year's July sales tax disbursement was
$18,481,969.

Webbers Falls, OK – 2 ex-Webbers Falls officers accused in swindle

WEBBERS FALLS, Okla. (AP) After a police investigation, two former Webbers Falls officers have been accused of swindling a motorist of $220 during a traffic stop in December 2005.

Police Chief Tim Brown has turned over the results of his investigation to the Muskogee County District Attorney's office, which will decide if charges should be filed against former Capt. Joe Garrett and former Officer Aaron Torix.

Oklahoma City, OK – Elements batter wheat crop

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's winter wheat harvest may yield less than half the amount taken in last year.

Oklahoma Wheat Commission executive director Mike Schulte says the harvest is about 98 percent complete and that the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates about 73.5 million bushels will be harvested.

Schulte says the 2008 harvest yielded about 166.5 million bushels, but last year was considered to be a bumper crop.
