Oklahoma City, OK – Askins welcomes Henry's help in Okla. gov. race

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Lt. Gov. Jari Askins says she plans to make some room on the stump in her campaign for Oklahoma governor for one of the state's most popular Democrats current Gov. Brad Henry.

Henry already endorsed Askins after her primary win over Attorney General Drew Edmondson. But the term-limited governor said this week people shouldn't be surprised to see him on the campaign trail with Askins.

Bomb Feared at OKC Capitol

Oklahoma Ci ty, OK – Bomb squad called to probe briefcase at Capitol


OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Some state employees were asked to vacate the Capitol after a suspicious package was discovered in a fourth-floor restroom.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Chris West says the patrol's bomb squad was called to the building late Thursday afternoon and determined the package was a man's briefcase.

New Information on Weleekta Fire

Weleekta, OK – Door, window blocked in deadly Okla. house fire

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Assistant Oklahoma Fire Marshal JoAnne Sellars says two potential escape routes were blocked in a Weleetka home where a fire killed six people.

She said Thursday that three victims were found in a bedroom where the window was boarded and a second possible route was a back door but it was completely blocked.

She says the other three victims were found in another bedroom but didn't know if the window there was blocked.

City of Tulsa Sues State

Tulsa, Oklahoma – TULSA, Okla. (AP) The city of Tulsa has filed a lawsuit against the state of Oklahoma, targeting a law passed earlier this year requiring cities to use the Oklahoma Tax Commission to collect sales taxes.

Records show that the four-count civil suit was filed Thursday in Oklahoma County District Court, and asks a judge to rule that the city has the right to use a private firm to collect its sales taxes.

Oklahoma Taiwan Relations

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Brad Henry is meeting with a Taiwanese provincial governor to celebrate a 30-year sister-state relationship with Oklahoma.

A ceremony is set for Thursday afternoon at the state Capitol with Henry and Taiwan Province Gov. Jung-Tzer (JUN'-zer) Lin.

Oklahoma's sister-state relationship with Taiwan Province was established in 1980.

Pink, OK – Okla. deputy shot 4 times, escapes serious injury

PINK, Okla. (AP) Authorities are still searching for three men in a pickup truck after a Pottawatomie County deputy was shot four times.

Sheriff Mike Booth said Wednesday night that the deputy's bulletproof vest prevented serious injury when he was shot during a traffic stop near Pink about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Traffic is being diverted off Interstate 40 near downtown Oklahoma City so Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews can repair a large hole that opened up in the pavement.
