OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's Promise scholarship program for low-income families is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

The program pays tuition and fees at public colleges and universities in Oklahoma. Students at private schools can have a portion of their tuition paid.

Oklahoma City, OK – USS Oklahoma survivors reunite in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Six people who survived aboard the USS Oklahoma when it was sunk in the attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor have gathered for a reunion in Oklahoma City.

The attack claimed 429 sailors and Marines aboard the ship on December 7th, 1941 -- a date President Franklin D. Roosevelt said would "live in infamy".

Shooting at BA

Broken Arrow, OK – Home invasion shooting in Broken Arrow probed

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) Police in Broken Arrow are investigating a shooting that came as the result of an alleged home invasion.

Two residents in the home told police that an adult male broke into the home and confronted the residents early Sunday morning.

Police say one of the residents got a pistol and shot the intruder twice, once in the left hand and once in a knee.

Oklahoma Heat Death

Enid, OK – Heat suspected in death of Enid woman at her home

ENID, Okla. (AP) Police in Enid say they believe heat played a role in the death of a woman whose body was found in the yard outside her home.

Police say the body of Brenda Nustvold was found shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday when the temperature was 99 degrees. Officers say neighbors had seen Nustvold working in the yard since about 9:30 a.m.

Police say Nustvold was in her mid-40s.

Drowning at Lake Eufaula

Lake Eufaula, OK – 13-year-old drowns while swimming at Lake Eufaula

LAKE EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) A 13-year-old boy has drowned while swimming with family at Lake Eufaula in McIntosh County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Dylan Shafer drowned shortly after noon Sunday at Paradise Point.

Troopers say Shafer was swimming with two cousins and his sister when the sister panicked and pushed him under the water. His body was found about 4 p.m. about 200 yards from the shore in about seven feet of water.

Tulsa, OK – Lawmaker: Lobbyist defeated bill targeting meth

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A state lawmaker says a lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry helped defeat a bill that targeted the sales of common cold medicines containing a key ingredient in methamphetamine.

The bill that died during the legislative session would have required a prescription for the purchase of tablet forms of medicines containing pseudoephedrine.

New Information On Bank Robbery Shoot-Out

Antlers, OK –

Oklahoma trooper in deadly shootout identified

ANTLERS, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is releasing the name of the trooper involved in a shootout that killed two Texas men suspected of robbing a bank in Wright City.

Lt. George Brown says Trooper Eric Blades is on paid leave pending an investigation into the Thursday afternoon shooting near Antlers that killed Jeremy Dysart of North Richland Hills and Justin Whisenhunt of White Settlement.

Calumet, OK – Tanker truck accident kills 1 in central Oklahoma

CALUMET, Okla. (AP) Authorities say the driver of a tanker truck was killed when the vehicle overturned near Calumet and caught fire.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the tractor-trailer accident occurred about 6:10 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 270 in Canadian County.

Troopers say the driver veered onto the shoulder, over corrected, spun around and overturned.

Unemployment Drops

Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma unemployment dips to 5.3 percent

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's unemployment rate declined in the month of May.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported Friday that unemployment in Oklahoma fell from 5.6 percent in April to 5.3 percent last month.

According to OESC statistics, there were 91,930 people unemployed in May. That's down from 124,450 who were unemployed in May 2010.
