Services Planned

Weleetka,OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Funeral services are this morning in Okmulgee for four of six people who died in a house fire earlier this week in Weleetka. Services for 45-year-old Renee Buck, 32-year-old LaToya Renee Bush, 9-year-old Kurstyn Pelegrin and 10-year-old Triston Pelegrin begin at 10:30. Services for 3-year-old James Southern and 2-year-old Barbara Southern are pending.

Vietnam Vet Finally Home

Tulsa, OK – A military honor guard stands at attention as the remains of Army Chief Warrant Officer Donald Wann is unloaded from a plane at Tulsa International Airport this afternoon.

Wann was killed in Vietnam, 39-years ago. His remains were only recently identified through testing done in Hawaii.

His family plans a celebration of his life Saturday at the Southeast Baptist Church in Muskogee.It will begin at 10 A.M.

Hungry Tulsans Receive Aid

Tulsa, Okla. – Relief organizations are active in Tulsa these days, even with reports that the recession is lifting. Hunger-relief organization Feed the Children recognizes the need some families face after months of holding on.

Three semi trucks in its Americans Feeding Americans caravan stopped in Tulsa today to deliver food, amenities and Avon products to needy families.

ACT Scores Flat

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State education officials say the average scores of Oklahoma high school seniors on the ACT exam remained steady at 20.7. The average score in math didn't change while the average science score increased as English and reading scores decreased slightly.

Heat May Have Killed Airline Puppies

Fort Worth, Texas – Airline says heat may be factor in 7 puppy deaths

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Heat might have killed seven puppies that died in the cargo hold of an American Airlines jet this month.

A spokeswoman for the airline said Tuesday that necropsies on the puppies were inconclusive but found that heat "may have been a factor."

The airline is defending its handling of the situation, saying the flight complied with company policy that prohibits shipping animals in hot weather.

Oklahoma City, OK – Federal judge stays Okla. execution

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal judge has issued a stay of execution for an Oklahoma death row inmate scheduled to die by lethal injection for the death of his 77-year-old great-uncle 16 years ago.

The stay was issued Tuesday just hours before Jeffrey David Matthews was set to be executed. A federal judge in Oklahoma City granted a stay until Oct. 16.
