Meet the British Author and Screenwriter Anthony Horowitz (of Alex Rider and Sherlock Holmes Fame)

Aired on Tuesday, January 7th.

Our guest on ST is Anthony Horowitz, the prolific English novelist and screenwriter who creates a range of different works in the mystery/suspense/thriller genre. He might be best known for his young adult adventure stories known as the Alex Rider series, all of which feature the eponymous teenage spy (who's saved the world on several different occasions). The tenth and final Alex Rider book has just been published --- it's called "Russian Roulette," and Horowitz tells us all about it on today's show.

Dav Pilkey (of "Captain Underpants" Fame) on Writing and Illustrating for Children (and for Laughs)

On today's show, we speak by phone with Dav Pilkey, the popular children's book author and illustrator who's probably best known for his "Captain Underpants" series of books. (There are ten books in this series --- Pilkey's now working on the 11th --- as well as a few different spin-off series.) Pilkey tells us about how his career got started, when the "Captain Underpants" character was actually born, and where some of his recurring ideas and themes as a writer and illustrator come from.

"If You Could Be Mine: A Novel"

We speak today by phone with author Sara Farizan, who is the daughter of Iranian immigrants, lives near Boston, and has just published her first novel. It's a YA novel that's been getting great reviews, and it's called "If You Could Be Mine." This book tells the story of two girls, Sahar and Nasrin, lifelong friends who live in the great Iranian city known as Tehran, and who also happen to be in love with one another. Creating Stories, Characters, and Series: Chatting with the YA Novelist and TV Writer D.J. MacHale

On this edition of our show, we visit with D.J. MacHale, the bestselling YA novelist and veteran TV writer/director. MacHale is probably best known as the author of the ten-volume, YA fantasy book series called "Pendragon: Journal of an Adventure through Time and Space." He's also the author of the "Morpheus Road" trilogy --- you can read all about MacHale's literary output here, by the way --- and he's likewise been successful in the world of children's television.
