A graduation ceremony is held for the Tulsa police department’s newest rookies.
The 25 police officers and two fire marshals take the oath of office today after successfully completing academy classes. Chief Chuck Jordan says they will be officers-in-training the next 16 weeks before being able to go it alone on patrol.
Jordan says these graduates will help fill positions lost over the year due to retirements and attrition. Another class of 40 is planned to start in July.
A 17-year-old girl is dead following an overnight shooting in East Tulsa.
Police say the girl was riding in her boyfriend’s car when a group of people opened fire on the car. The girl was struck by one bullet fired from a high powered gun. She was rushed to the hospital but later died.
The shooting happened in the 12200-block of East 15th Street in Tulsa.
A woman is in the hospital after being shot by Tulsa Police overnight. It happened at the Las Americas Super-Marcado in North Tulsa. The store is located next to Interstate -244 at Admiral and North Lewis.
Police had been called to the scene after a complaint about a woman with a gun. She had apparently been threatening a man at the local. Police blocked her car in the store’s parking lot.
It is unclear what led the officers to shoot. Names have not been released.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Tulsa police documents say the two suspects arrested in a shooting spree that terrorized the city's black community have both confessed. The documents given to The Associated Press on Monday say 19-year-old Jake England confessed to shooting three people and 32-year-old Alvin Watts confessed to shooting two.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Tulsa police say an officer shot and killed a man who allegedly pulled a knife on officers who were doing a welfare check.
Detective Dave Walker says officers were called to a Tulsa apartment complex Tuesday night on reports that the man was suicidal. Walker says the man grabbed a knife and started running toward officers.
That's when an officer fired at the man.
Police say the man was taken to a Tulsa hospital where he later died. Police have not yet released his name or the name of the officer involved in the shooting.
Tulsa Police are investigating the cause of death for a toddler. The young boy was found in the back seat of car. Police had pulled over the auto because of erratic driving near 65th and South Lewis Avenue in Tulsa.
The child, believed to be about 18-months-old, was unresponsive when the car was pulled-over by police. The two women in the car told authorities they were rush to the hospital when they were stopped. Emergency crews tried to revive the child with no luck.
Officers are investigating whether foul play was involved in the child’s death.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Tulsa police have released the name of the officer who shot and killed a man who allegedly broke into a woman's home and attacked her.
Police said Wednesday that Officer James Comstock shot and killed 25-year-old Phillip Steven Doll on Tuesday when Doll lunged at officers investigating a 911 call that someone had broken into the woman's home. Police have said Doll was on top of the woman when officers entered the home and lunged at them before Comstock opened fire.
