Tulsa Councilor is Learning Ways to Spend Tax Dollars More Efficiently

A Tulsa leader studies ways to better spend your money. District 9 Representative G.T. Bynum is the only city councilor in the nation invited to be part of Money Ball for Government. It’s a program used successfully elsewhere, finding more efficient ways to spend tax dollars by finding strategies than work and discarding those that don’t. Bynum says it’s a practice used successfully in several other cities.

He says being part of this program should make Tulsa one of the national leaders in performance based budgeting.

A Matter of Priorities: The City of Tulsa, Its Budget, and Its Arts Community

This has been an anxious past few months for many in Tulsa's arts community. That community was very much caught off-guard by the decision of Mayor Bartlett's office to eliminate most of the City of Tulsa's arts funding. Alarming proposals to cut staff positions at the Tulsa PAC Trust, the Waterworks Community Arts Center, and both the Heller and Clark Theatres effectively galvanized supporters all over town, and these supporters quickly spurred the City Council to oppose the Mayor's proposals.

Making the Case for "Improve Our Tulsa"

On Tuesday of next week, November 12th, the citizens of Tulsa won't just cast a ballot for Kathy Taylor or Dewey Bartlett. They'll also vote on the $918-million "Improve Our Tulsa" capital improvements package, which is intended to fund improvements to our city's infrastructure --- with 70% of the package being devoted to street repair/repaving/refurbishment alone.
