Fatal Fire at Muskogee

Muskogee, OK – Okla. boy dies in apartment fire

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Fire officials are investigating a blaze at a garage apartment that killed a 2-year-old boy.

Crews received an emergency call about 9:24 a.m. Monday and arrived within minutes, but they were unable to save Kaydeen John Paul Stepp.

The child's mother, Tara Woods, says she was in the living room with two others when the blaze began. Woods says she tried to reach her son but she was blocked by a wall of flames.

Tulsa, OK – 5 Okla lawmen indicted, arrested

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Federal prosecutors say four current Tulsa police officers and one former officer have been arrested and indicted in connection with a corruption probe.

U.S. Attorney Jane Duke in Arkansas said Tuesday two indictments were unsealed after Earnest Bonham, Nick DeBruin, Jeff Henderson, Harold Wells and Bill Yelton made initial court appearances.

Tulsa Transit Changes Grilled

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Transit says it had no choice but to make changes to its operation. The service's budget was cut 31-percent during the past budget cycle. The cut back has required changes to its LIFT program for the disabled and elderly.

Tulsa Transit General Manager Bill Cartwright answered criticism today from City Councilor Maria Barnes.

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) Eastern Oklahomans are filling up the Salvation Army's cooling station in downtown Tulsa as they look for relief from the sweltering summer heat. Executive Director Arletta Robinson at the Salvation Army's Center of Hope says the facility can handle up to 500 people.

Tulsa Bank Robbed

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Police Department is investigating another Tulsa bank robbery. The ICB Bank east of Yale on Skelly Drive was robbed yesterday afternoon.

The robber gave the teller a note that implied he had a gun, however no gun was seen.

The suspect ran from the bank toward apartments near 51st and Yale.

This same bank has been robbed several times in recent months.

H1N1 Vaccine Expiring

Oklahoma City, OK – Swine flu vaccine spoiling in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Less than half the swine flu vaccine that was set aside for Oklahoma last year was used and much of the remainder has spoiled or is spoiling.

The government set aside more than 1.3 million doses for Oklahoma but 602,000 doses were actually used.

The state Health Department says almost 208,000 doses have now expired and almost 213,000 doses are in doctors' offices and clinics across the state with varying dates of expiration.

Henry wants More!

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Gov. Brad Henry is seeking federal disaster assistance for Oklahoma County residents and businesses affected by flooding earlier this month.

Henry made the request Monday for residents and businesses affected by floods between July 6 and 12.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management says 226 homes were damaged by flooding but only about 2 percent of them were insured through the National Flood Insurance Program.
