Miley Cyrus Booked for Tulsa

Tulsa, Ok – Miley Cyrus today announced her 2009 North American Tour, presented by Walmart, and promoted by AEG Live. The 45-show tour, featuring special guest Metro Station, launches September 14, 2009 in Portland, OR and will play in several major cities including Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans and more before wrapping in Miami on December 2nd.

She will make a Tulsa concert stop on October 12th at the Tulsa BOK Center. Tickets will cost between $42 and $82.

Creeks Buy Possible Bridge Land

The proposed bridge would be to the east of the intersection of 121st and South Yale.

Bixby, OK – The Creek Nation appears to be moving forward with plans to construct a bridge connecting Jenks and Bixby with South Tulsa. The proposed bridge would span the Arkansas River opening the South County area to development. Right now the nearest bridges across the river are at Memorial Drive in Bixby and at 96th Street in Jenks.

Automatic Tickets Stopped

Oklahoma City, OK – Turnpike Authority to stop automatic violations

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority will stop issuing automatic tickets for failure to pay tolls until it matches its records with new license plate numbers.

Violations were automatically generated by a computer system that manages the toll system.

Errors occurred when a Pikepass was misread and the computer couldn't match the photographed license plate number to an active Pikepass account.

Gas prices jump again in Tulsa

Tulsa, OK – Gas prices climb 19 cents over 2 weeks

CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) The U.S. price of gasoline jumped 19 cents a gallon during the past two weeks, but remains well below prices from a year ago.

That's according to the national Lundberg Survey of fuel prices released Sunday.

Analyst Trilby Lundberg says the average price of regular gasoline was $2.49 a gallon Friday, when the survey was completed.

That's up 54 cents from ten weeks ago, with most of the rise occurring during May.

Refinery Sold

Tulsa, OK – NEW: Sunoco completes sale of Tulsa refinery to Holly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Oil refiner Sunoco Inc. says it has completed the sale of its 85,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Tulsa, Okla., to Dallas-based Holly Corp. for $65 million.

Sunoco's chairman and CEO, Lynn Elsenhans, calls the move another step in Sunoco's efforts to realign its portfolio of assets and improve its competitiveness.

The company says the Tulsa refinery began production in 1913 and had been a part of Sunoco's refining system since 1968.

Tulsa, OK – Spokesman: Sullivan constituent needs will be met

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A spokesman says the needs of the constituents of an Oklahoma congressmen who took a leave of absence to seek treatment for an alcohol addiction will be met while he is gone.

The Tulsa World reports from its Washington bureau that spokesman John Tidwell says U.S. Rep. John Sullivan "made specific arrangements to ensure his congressional offices in both Oklahoma and Washington will remain open and fully functional."

Tulsa, OK – Continental Express jet makes emergency landing

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A Continental Express jet with 53 people on board has made an emergency landing at Tulsa International Airport.

Flight 2916 from Houston to Omaha, Neb., diverted just after 9:30 a.m. Monday after the crew said they were having a "pressurization problem."

The Tulsa Fire Department and ambulances were called to the scene but there are no reports of injury.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Sen. Tom Coburn announced this morning in Tulsa he will run for re-election to a second term.

The Oklahoma Republican has built a reputation as an anti-earmarks crusader by working to stall projects that other senators try to put into legislation.

Coburn is a medical doctor who was first elected to the Senate in 2004 when he defeated Democrat Brad Carson with 53 percent of the vote.

Tulsa's No Whistle Zone

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) A designation has been delayed that would silence the horns of trains passing through downtown Tulsa. The so-called "quiet zone" designation had been expected to be implemented this spring, after work to install vehicle-proof gates at five railroad crossings was finished. City planner Dennis Whitaker says that the designation likely won't be implemented until the end of the year.
