Women's Pro Basketball in Tulsa's Future?

Tulsa, OK – An announcement is expected tomorrow (Wednesday) as Tulsa attempts to get a WNBA franchise. Oklahoma City businessmen Bill Cameron and David Box are the two lead investors.

Cameron is an owner of the Oklahoma City Thunder, chairman and CEO of American Fidelity Assurance and chairman of First Fidelity Bank. Box is a concert promoter and owns the Greens Country Club in Oklahoma City.

There are 13-teams in the WNBA League with a national television contract with ESPN.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Sealed indictments returned by a multicounty grand jury are scheduled to be opened in district courtrooms this week.

The indictments were handed up Monday following an investigation by the grand jury into the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Washington, D.C. – Natural gas vehicle research bill passes House


OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A bill that would reauthorize a Department of Energy natural gas vehicle research, development, demonstration and deployment program for five years has overwhelmingly passed the U.S. House.

Rep. John Sullivan, an Oklahoma Republican, sponsored the legislation, which passed by a 393-35 margin on Tuesday. The aim of the bill is to bring more natural gas-powered cars to market.

No Ballot Changes

Tulsa, OK – There will be no changes in the ballot.

The Tulsa County Election Board has ruled that Chris Trail will remain on the ballot as a District Five Tulsa City Council Candidate. Incumbent Bill Martinson challenged Trail as a viable candidate claiming Trial registered to vote in the district prior to living there. Trail claimed he took position of a home on March 26th and registered to vote on March 31st, ahead of the deadline.

Water Quality Report Releasesd

Tulsa, Ok – Tulsa's annual water quality report, which covers results from tests done in 2008, was mailed to about 150,000 customers inside their June utility bills. People who do not receive utility bills may request copies of the report by calling the Mayor's Action Center at 596-2100.

Water systems are required to test drinking water as it leaves the treatment plant and enters the distribution system. The report shows that Tulsa's drinking water is safe and of high quality.

Tulsa, OK – American flight diverted to Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (AP) An American Airlines flight from Newark, N.J., to Los Angeles landed safely after being diverted to Tulsa.

An airline spokesman says the pilot was diverted to Tulsa International Airport Monday night after reporting unspecified engine problems.

The Boeing 767 with 168 passengers and six crew members on board landed about 9:15 p.m. with no injuries reported.

The passengers were put on a another airplane and taken on to Los Angeles.

Oklahoma City, OK – Trooper in scuffle with paramedic remains on leave

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An investigation into a scuffle in which a state trooper choked a paramedic is under review and the attorney for the paramedic says he's tired of the lack of action.

Trooper Daniel Martin has been on paid leave since June 1 after a video of the May 24 incident with Creek Nation paramedic Maurice White Jr. surfaced.

County Divides the Pie

Tulsa, OK –
School districts and municipalities in Tulsa County are about to get Christmas is July in an unexpected gift. Tulsa County Treasurer Dennis Semler is making cash available from the interest paid on delinquent property taxes. It totals $1.2-million.

Under state law the funds will be split three-ways, among the school districts, towns and the county. The checks should arrive later this month. Semler says this is the first time the county has made the funds available.
