Lawsuit Urged

Oklahoma City, OK – Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn Coffee and House Speaker Chris Benge urged Oklahoma's Attorney General on Monday to file suit against the federal government, challenging the constitutionality of yesterday's health care legislation.

Back to School at Oologah

Oologah, OK – Students return to the classroom at Oologah. Yesterday, was the first day of school following a meningitis outbreak that left two students dead.

Oologah Superintendent Rick Thomas says while the outbreak was centered in the lower elementary, it impacted the entire district. He says he has never seen a disease spread so rapidly.

Three children remain hospitalized with the disease.

Teacher Cuts Could Be Ahead

Tulsa, OK –
The Tulsa School board tonight will be asked to take initials steps toward shedding the district of over 200- school teachers.

The action is necessary to balance the school district's budget. It is unknown how many, if any, teachers will be laid off or if the gap can be filled by non-renewed contracts and attrition.

Funding for the district has already been slashed by seven million dollars this year and is expected to be trimmed by 10-to-15-million next year.

New Owner, New Plans

Afton, OK – New owner of resort on Grand Lake unveils plans

AFTON, Okla. (AP) Tulsa businessman Eddy Gibbs says he has big plans for the Grand Lake resort once known as Shangri-La, which he bought earlier this month. It's been called The Peninsula Resort and Club since 2005, but Gibbs said at a meeting in Afton that it would once again be called Shangri-La.

A Whole Lotta Shaking Going On

Oklahoma City, OK – 3 earthquakes recorded in central Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The U.S. Geological Survey reports recording three earthquakes in central Oklahoma in a span of less than seven hours.

A 3.7 magnitude quake was recorded near Prague in Lincoln County about 9:35 p.m. Sunday. That was followed by a 2.7 magnitude quake in the same area about 3:20 a.m. Monday and a 2.8 magnitude quake in the area just after 4:15 Monday morning.

Snow Equals Wrecks

Tulsa, OK – Emergency medical officials responded to a rash of motor vehicle crashes during the late morning and early afternoon hours Saturday, as wintry precipitation began to impact travel. EMSA experienced higher than normal call volume between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. During the 4.5 hour span, EMSA paramedics provided care to 14 people hurt in crashes and four individuals who suffered injuries after falling on wet or snowy surfaces. None of the patients sustained life-threatening injuries.
