"Hell with the Lid Blown Off" -- the seventh title in Casey's popular Alafair Tucker series -- is newly available, and (as with the rest of Casey's fiction) this novel draws heavily upon her Oklahoma well as the roots of her Sooner State relatives.

A final report on the 2011 Joplin tornado has been released. The National Institute of Standards and Technology recommends strengthened building designs, public shelters, and more effective emergency communications. Marc Levitan is team leader for the Joplin tornado investigation at NIST. He says the Joplin tornado study is the first to recommend that standards and model codes be adopted for buildings to better resist tornadoes.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will speak at the high school graduation ceremony in Joplin, the Missouri city slowly recovering after being struck by a devastating tornado a year ago. Obama will deliver remarks at the May 21 commencement, according a White House official, who requested anonymity in order to speak ahead of the formal announcement. The president last visited Joplin in May 2011, just days after the massive tornado hit.
