Tulsa County Now Under Burn Ban

Jul 6, 2012

Tulsa County Commissioners passed a resolution today creating a burn ban in Tulsa County effective immediately until July 16, 2012, at which time Commissioners will consider an additional burn ban.  The resolution prohibits outdoor burning in the county including controlled burns and bonfires.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — After the threat of wildfires put a damper on many Independence Day celebrations last year, only two of Oklahoma's 77 counties are banning outdoor burning and the use of fireworks as this year's Fourth of July holiday approaches.

County commissioners in Beaver and LeFlore counties have issued burn bans.

Beaver County emergency management director Keith Shadden says no one wanted to enact a burn ban so close to July 4, but officials were receiving several fire calls a day, and at least one of the fires was started with fireworks.
