WPX Energy to Close Oklahoma City Office, Lay Off 60 Workers

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Tulsa-based WPX Energy has announced plans to close its Oklahoma City office and lay off 60 of the 95 employees.

The oil and natural gas company said Wednesday that of the remaining 35 employees, 33 will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Tulsa and two will be allowed to move to its office in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The company said employees who lose their jobs will receive a severance package of six weeks to one year salary, based on years of service, in addition to health care assistance, vacation pay and annual incentive awards.

WPX spokesman Kelly Swan said more layoffs are likely company-wide this year, but that it's too early to say how many people may be affected.
