Oklahoma City, OK – Deaths in workplaces rises in Oklahoma in 2010

(Information in the following story is from: The Oklahoman, http://www.newsok.com)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor shows the number of workplace deaths in Oklahoma rose by 11 percent in 2010.

The report released Thursday shows there were 91 work-related fatalities in 2010 compared to 82 in 2009.

Regional economist Cheryl Abbot with the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Dallas told The Oklahoman that the 2009 number is the one that is unusual.

Abbot says rising unemployment in 2009 left fewer people working likely resulting in fewer workplace fatalities.

The largest number of workplace deaths in Oklahoma is 200 in 1995 the year the Oklahoma City bombing killed 168 people.
