Wintry Mix Likely on Tuesday

NWS Tulsa

Single digit wind chills are occurring across portions of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. However, winds are light across the region, and this will limit the wind chill threat. South winds will gust to near 25 mph this afternoon, along and north of I-44. The strong winds will raise fire weather concerns, however the cooler temperatures resulting from the latest arctic cold front will keep humidities from dropping too low. Wintry precipitation is expected mainly north of I-40 late Tuesday into Tuesday evening, as an upper level storm system interacts with another push of cold air pushing into the region from the north. Light ice and snow accumulations will likely create slick spots on area roadways, especially bridges and overpasses. The precip will come to an end by midnight Tuesday night. Another strong arctic cold front is expected to arrive by next weekend. While details still remain uncertain at this time, there is potential for some light icing as an upper wave moves across the region in the wake of the front.
